Las Vegas Senior & Junior High School Team Rodeo Banner hosting the NSHSRA rodeo at at Priefert Pavilion Rodeo.

I went to the Las Vegas High School rodeo where the team was hosting…

Pre-rodeo warmup arena, female contestant peeks out of Priefert Pavilion as seen at: rodeo Priefert Pavilion; rodeo South Point Arena; rodeo South Point; and rodeo Horseman’s Park.

…their annual Nevada State High School Rodeo Association event at South Point Casino – I think she’s hiding…on a horse?

Pre-rodeo warmup arena, a closeup of horse's head as seen at: rodeo Priefert Pavilion; rodeo South Point Arena; rodeo South Point; and rodeo Horseman’s Park.

The Priefert Pavilion facilities were first rate…

Pre-rodeo warmup arena, contestants exercise their horses as seen at: rodeo Elko HS; rodeo Eureka HS; rodeo Fernley HS; and rodeo Fallon HS.

…and the practice arena (above) was large compared to other rodeos like the Boulder City rodeo, Pahrump rodeo or Horseman’s Park rodeo where this event used to be held.

Pre-rodeo, closeup of a resting horse as seen at: rodeo Humboldt HS; & rodeo Moapa Valley; rodeo Spanish Springs HS; and rodeo NSHSRA.

A horse relaxes waiting to sing the National Anthem.

Pre-rodeo, contestants and their horses wait for the National Anthem at Priefert Pavilion as seen at: rodeo Washoe HS; rodeo Wells HS; rodeo White Pine HS; and rodeo NSHSRA.

As the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem approach, so do the riders…so stop talking about my horse’s ass…you’re a horse’s ass…you…no, you…you…no, you…horse-butt!………………………………you!

Pre-rodeo, contestants and their horses wait for the National Anthem as seen at: Rodeo Priefert Pavilion; Rodeo South Point Arena; Rodeo South Point; & Rodeo NSHSRA.

…sorry…where was I….a photo just outside the Priefert Pavilion’s dual parallel arenas in the Equestrian Center.

In pole-bending event, a horse and rider strain forward in the time trials at Priefert Pavilion as seen at: rodeo Alamo HS; rodeo Battle Mountain HS; rodeo Boulder City HS; and rodeo Pahrump Valley.

Pole-bending started the action…

In pole-bending event, the first of two images, a horse and rider strain forward in the time trials at Priefert Pavilion as seen at: rodeo Elko HS; rodeo Eureka HS; rodeo Fernley HS; and rodeo Fallon HS.
In pole-bending event, the second of two images, a horse and rider strain forward in the time trials at Priefert Pavilion as seen at: rodeo Humboldt HS; rodeo Las Vegas HS; rodeo Moapa Valley; & rodeo Spanish Springs HS.

…with both Priefert Pavilion arenas busy with time-trials.

In pole-bending event, the rider yanks the reigns to slow the horse in the time trials at Priefert Pavilion as seen at: rodeo Washoe HS; rodeo Wells HS; rodeo White Pine HS; and rodeo NSHSRA.

A rider finishes her run.

In pole-bending event, a long-shot of the pole-line as horse barrels to the finish at Priefert Pavilion as seen at: rodeo Priefert Pavilion; rodeo South Point Arena; rodeo South Point; and rodeo Horseman’s Park.

A long shot as a rider races down the pole-line to the finish.

In pole-bending event, a tired horse and rider walk into the camera after time trials at Priefert Pavilion as seen at: rodeo Alamo HS; rodeo Battle Mountain HS; rodeo Boulder City HS; and rodeo Pahrump Valley.

This horse and rider were pretty calm about the whole thing.

More mind-bending pole-bending finishes.

In breakaway event, a female rider tracks the cow as she spins the lasso in time trials at Priefert Pavilion as seen at:
As seen at rodeo Priefert Pavilion; South Point Arena; South Point; and Horseman’s Park.

During the rodeo, the livestock were large and contestants had a rough time…

In breakaway event, a male contestant picks up a flailing cow before his tie-down at Priefert Pavilion as seen at: rodeo Alamo; rodeo Battle Mountain; rodeo Boulder City; and rodeo Pahrump Valley.

…except him…

Breakaway event, male contestant walks the rope line to tie down his calf during time trials at Priefert Pavilion as seen at: rodeo Elko; rodeo Eureka; rodeo Fernley; and rodeo Fallon. (1 of 3)

Breakaway event, male contestant struggles to control his calf during time trials during time trials at Priefert Pavilion as seen at: Priefert Pavilion; South Point Arena; South Point; and Horseman’s Park.

…but the junior high kids struggled.

In bull-riding event, two rodeo clowns chase down the rough-stock bull as the rider swings helplessly near the ground at Priefert Pavilion as seen at: rodeo Alamo; rodeo Battle Mountain; rodeo Boulder City; and rodeo Pahrump Valley.

…and, of course, there was the side-saddle event…nice form…

…and, by the way, the rodeo clowns weren’t exactly clowning around.

In bull-riding event, fourth of four images, the rodeo clown warns the approaching cowboy about the bull at Priefert Pavilion as seen in rodeos: Alamo, Battle Mountain; Boulder City; Pahrump; Pahrump Valley; Elko; Eureka; Fallon; Fernley; Humboldt; Las Vegas; Moapa; Moapa Valley; Spanish Springs; Washoe; Wells; White Pine; NSHSRA; Priefert Pavilion; & South Point;

Love the clown pants…and if you look closely, you’ll see the clown is making a point about all the darn bull-poop – it’s really out of control – and the bull, though you wouldn’t know it to look at him, has a hanger.

In the bull-riding event, a shot of the enormous, red, rough-stock stockade as rodeo officials await the next bull at Rodeo Priefert Pavilion; Rodeo South Point Arena; Rodeo South Point; & Rodeo NSHSRA.

Priefert Pavilion rough-stock stockade.

In bull-riding event, all hell breaks loose as two rodeo clowns deflect attention from the rider who runs away at Priefert Pavilion as seen in rodeos: Alamo, Battle Mountain; Boulder City; Pahrump; Pahrump Valley; Elko; Eureka; Fallon; Fernley; Humboldt; Las Vegas; Moapa; Moapa Valley; Spanish Springs; Washoe; Wells; White Pine; NSHSRA; Priefert Pavilion; & South Point;

More bull running…I mean bull riding…I had the bull runs once.

In bull riding event, a contestant hangs on atop his ride as the rodeo clown cautiously approaches at Rodeo Priefert Pavilion; Rodeo South Point Arena; Rodeo South Point; & Rodeo NSHSRA.

This rodeo clown…

In bull riding event, a rough-stock two-thousand pound bull charges a rodeo clown from behind hitting him in the back and lifting him in the air at Priefert Pavilion as seen in rodeos: Alamo, Battle Mountain; Boulder City; Pahrump; Pahrump Valley; Elko; Eureka; Fallon; Fernley; Humboldt; Las Vegas; Moapa; Moapa Valley; Spanish Springs; Washoe; Wells; White Pine; NSHSRA; Priefert Pavilion; & South Point;

…got a little backed up…said some things he shouldn’t have…but it’s all patched up…total besties.

In bull riding event, a rough-stock bull considers charging two clowns at Priefert Pavilion as seen at: rodeo Humboldt HS; rodeo Las Vegas HS; rodeo Moapa Valley HS; & rodeo Spanish Springs HS.

…and to think you enjoy rodeo clowning that much you’d make it a career choice. So Moms, take that as a lesson….

In pole-bending event, black & white photo, cowgirl trains her horse around the end pole during time-trials at Priefert Pavilion as seen at: rodeo Priefert Pavilion; rodeo South Point Arena; rodeo South Point; and rodeo Horseman’s Park.

So, come on down for the 2026 Las Vegas High School rodeo at South Point’s Priefert Pavilion and root for your favorite rodeo town team, but make sure you bring the love.
